Exchange Pulse™ Report Summary
Our latest Exchange Pulse report marks the third in our series of in-depth investigations into the behavior and medication usage trends of health exchange members.
Overall exchange members continue to use their prescription drug benefits. Their significant use of specialty medications continues to drive up plan and individual costs. However, new enrollees are demonstrating signs of broader market engagement as they are younger with a relatively lower prevalence of specialty conditions, such as HIV. If trends continue in this direction, these younger, healthier members will prove beneficial for managing overall health plan risk.

About the Analysis
The third edition of the Express Scripts Exchange Pulse™ Report compares prescription medication use among exchange plan enrollees to those who are enrolled in a traditional health plan benefit. The analysis examined medication trends from January 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015, and also compared trends in Q1 2015 to those seen in Q1 2014. The analysis is based on more than 100 million de-identified pharmacy claims administered by Express Scripts during these periods.
