Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a retrovirus that weakens the body’s immune system by attacking cells that assist in fighting off infection. The virus is responsible for causing the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), although not all patients who are HIV positive are diagnosed with AIDS.

Transformation in Treatment

HIV is a serious condition, but developments in medicine have made the condition manageable by providing patients with easier and long-term treatment options that improve quality of life and life expectancy.

However, nonadherence continues to be a challenge. Because of challenges like cost, complicated regimens and drug-induced comorbidities, 23% of HIV patients fall off their anti-retroviral therapy regimen.

The Need for Specialized Care

To prevent nonadherence, further transmission, complications, disease progression, and comorbidities, Accredo provides a holistic approach to support patients. Our specialist clinicians and extended care team in the Accredo HIV Thereapeutic Resource Center (TRC) use a high-touch model to engage with patients and help them get the most from their medication. We provide proactive therapy management, develop a deeper understanding of each patient through one-on-one consultation, and deliver the personalized education so that patients feel motivated to remain adherent.
