Accredo's Therapeutic Resource Centers® are a lifeline for rare disease patients and patients with complex conditions.

One of the greatest challenges rare disease patients face is the lack of information related to their condition and treatment. Many healthcare providers have little to no knowledge of a rare disease, which is defined as a condition that affects fewer than 200,000 people nationwide.

Here at Express Scripts, however, teams of experts are focused every day on rare diseases, and the treatments that help change and save patients’ lives.

Through Accredo's Rare Disease Therapeutic Resource Center and our 14 other TRCs that focus on specialty and complex conditions, rare disease patients have the support of clinicians and patient care advocates who work to ensure rare disease patients receive therapy quickly, experience no lapse in therapy, and receive follow-up clinical care and education.

As the healthcare industry recognizes Rare Disease Day on Feb. 28, we’re reminded that while a relatively small number of patients may be diagnosed with a particular rare disease, collectively, rare disease has a significant impact.

Approximately 30 million Americans are currently living with a rare disease. There are an estimated 7,000 known rare diseases, many others undiagnosed. Yet only an approximate 500 of those diseases have any treatment.

Accredo’s TRCs are a lifeline for rare disease patients as well as patients with complex conditions, including multiple sclerosis, cystic fibrosis, bleeding disorders, and pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Specialized Care for Patients and Caregivers

Fifty percent of rare diseases affect children. For these, our most vulnerable patients, our TRC teams are adept at providing urgent, specialized support to parents and caregivers.

We know that behind every prescription is a patient or caregiver who may have just learned that they or a loved one has a very rare disease. Our team works together at a high level of collaboration to provide the best possible care for every patient.

Eighty percent of rare diseases have identified genetic origins, making the prospect of gene therapy innovation an exciting and essential advancement in treating rare disease.

On Rare Disease Day and every day, Accredo is at the forefront of providing the most up-to-date treatment and personalized care for our patients.
