Specialty Pharmacy Support for HIV

Research shows that HIV/AIDS patients who participate in Express Scripts HIVLogic program are 10% more adherent than patients using a retail pharmacy.
  • HIV

Adherence to prescribed therapy medication is an important component of healthy outcomes for all patients. But for patients living with HIV/AIDS who often have compromised immune systems, adherence to therapy is a critical component for optimal long-term outcomes – and to change the rising cost of this disease.

According to the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS):

  • More than 34 million people worldwide are living with HIV
  • 1.7 million adults and children have died from AIDS
  • In the U.S., there are more than a million people currently living with the disease

In addition to the highly complicated medication regimen in HIV/AIDS patients, there are physical limitations, emotional concerns and the social stigma often associated with the condition that can make adherence especially challenging. Leaders from the worlds of science, diplomacy, politics, philanthropy and entertainment are addressing these issues this week at the XIX International AIDS Conference

A Specialty Pharmacy Solution

Research has demonstrated the use of enhanced specialty pharmacy services helps increase overall adherence and improve clinical outcomes.

Express Scripts’ HIVLogic program – an optional service offered through one of our specialty pharmacies, CuraScript – is designed to improve patient adherence by providing extra disease- and treatment-specific education. The program also provides more frequent one-on-one clinical consultations and assessments with nurses, guiding patients along the path to better health outcomes.

Measurably Healthier

Our research shows that patients who participate in our HIVLogic program have an average adherence rate of 93%, nearly 10% higher than patients using a retail pharmacy. Specialty pharmacy services can also help save up to $3,000 per member per year in overall healthcare costs.

All HIV/AIDS patients receive 24-hour access to pharmacists, nursing assistance, access to social workers and community support resources from CuraScript Specialty Pharmacy.
