Express Scripts’ experts share key insights on key healthcare topics right now. Here is a round-up of our topics from the past month:

1. Our Opportunity to Be Better Together

According to our research, prescription drug prices keep rising – the average price of brand medications rose 232 percent from 2008 through 2017. At the same time, more benefit providers are offering high-deductible and consumer-driven health plans. And some patients are getting stuck in the middle. At Express Scripts, we believe that the right approach to policy reform will require a consensus, in which every party gives something and no one gets everything they want – except the patients we serve.

2. 2019 National Preferred Formulary: Better Access. Better Value.

Despite promises to limit price increases, drug makers are trying to game the market by delaying generic competition, blocking access to safe and effective biosimilars, and coyly deferring - not cancelling - list-price increases. This is why our work to expand access and maximize value is more important now than ever. In our 2019 National Preferred Formulary (NPF), we have identified opportunities to address these issues – and others – as we champion broad, affordable access to innovative treatments.

3. Proud to Sponsor 2018 PGA HOPE Secretary’s Cup

Express Scripts was the exclusive sponsor of the 2018 PGA HOPE Secretary’s Cup. PGA HOPE is the flagship military program of PGA REACH, the charitable foundation of the Professional Golfers' Association of America. PGA HOPE introduces golf to veterans with disabilities, with the goal of enhancing their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. The Secretary’s Cup, a tournament that matches veterans with professionals, provided an opportunity for us to celebrate some of the people we serve as well as the work we do each day.

4. Providing Specialist Care to Psoriasis Patients

About 7.5 million Americans have been diagnosed with psoriasis, making it one of the most prevalent autoimmune diseases in the United States. Learn how our specialist pharmacists and nurses at the Accredo Rheumatoid Arthritis and Inflammatory Conditions (RA&I) Therapeutic Resource Center utilize their expertise to provide drug- and disease-specific education and counseling to patients.

5. Back to School Tips: When Nutrition Matters Most

These days, students are gearing up for classes, and it’s an exciting time filled with preparations for the new school year ahead. Yet, for families whose students’ disease or condition relies on certain nutrition requirements in conjunction with therapy, the start of a new school year can be an unsettling time. Here are some tips to help keep young patients safe and adherent to their nutrition and therapy plans.

6. FDA Update: August 2018

Express Scripts’ Emerging Therapeutics team monitors new drug approvals, new generics and other actions from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Read about some important approvals and updates we tracked over the past month.

7. Accredo Calms Rough Seas for Cruise Passenger

As the summer winds down, many of us treasure the memories of vacations and new adventures shared with loved ones. A pharmacist with Accredo’s Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Therapeutic Resource Center highlights how she and the Accredo team helped ensure a patient’s vacation ended on a happy note.
