Accredo specialty pharmacy has earned URAC’s specialty pharmacy accreditation at its primary dispensing locations: Warrendale, Pa., New Castle, Del., Indianapolis, Ind., Orlando, Fla., Memphis, Tenn., Greensboro, N.C., Nashville, Tenn., and Corona, Calif.

In addition, Express Scripts Freedom Fertility Pharmacy, located in Byfield, Mass., gained renewal of URAC’s specialty pharmacy accreditation.

URAC is a Washington D.C.-based independent accreditor of health care management organizations. To earn its specialty pharmacy accreditation, pharmacies must pass rigorous performance measures, which include meeting accuracy and turnaround time of dispensed prescriptions, having policies and procedures that ensure adherence to drug safety protocols, and maintaining a patient-centered strategy for its patient management program.

The Value of Specialty Pharmacy Services

The role of specialty pharmacies, which serve patients with complex, chronic diseases, is becoming increasingly important as the healthcare system transitions to value-based payment models. While the focus has always been on getting the right medication to the right patient, specialty pharmacies must also show the value of their services.

As URAC notes in its Industry Insight Report, “Every standard in URAC’s Specialty Pharmacy Accreditation program focuses on how pharmacies can help patients with the highest needs and the highest costs achieve the intended result from their medication therapies – and why payers, PBMs and pharmaceutical manufacturers now require specialty pharmacy accreditation among their contracted partners.”

Accredo shows that value every day. Through personalized patient care and proactive outreach, we’re helping to improve health outcomes while reducing healthcare costs.
