Preparing for the carefree days of retirement can be an overwhelming task, especially when it comes to planning for future health and pharmacy coverage. According to a 2013 Express Scripts survey of Medicare beneficiaries age 65 and older:

  • 60% confess that they find it confusing to choose a Medicare prescription drug plan that meets their needs.
  • Fewer than 20% are confident that they could easily explain how to choose a Medicare prescription drug plan.
  • 31% of current Part D members admit that being confused about the differences between their prescription drug options is enough to make them just stay with their current plan.

As a result of the confusion Medicare beneficiaries face, many find themselves in a plan that doesn’t meet their long-term healthcare needs.

A Roadmap for Medicare

With Medicare open enrollment season around the corner, Express Scripts is aiming to help those who are retired, or soon-to-be retired, make informed decisions about their current and future health and pharmacy needs with a new program called Roadmap for Medicare.

The cornerstone of the program is www.roadmapformedicare.com, a new website that features Express Scripts Medicare and pharmacy experts offering free tips and information about retiree health, pharmacy needs and Medicare coverage. The site also answers frequently asked questions, and offers a downloadable guide with checklists and tools to help retirees map out their pharmacy and Medicare Part D needs.

 Roadmap for Medicare

On this website, retirees will learn how to predict their future pharmacy and healthcare needs, how to make the most of their Medicare Part D benefit, and how to protect their retirement funds from being consumed by healthcare costs. The site also offers a tutorial for retirees who are transitioning from employer-provided health coverage to Medicare.

We want to help retirees make the best long-term plans for their future health, and are proud to offer this useful resource so they can have a successful Medicare journey.
